Meskel festival is a religious holiday marking the eve of what is termed as ‘the finding of Jesus’ ‘true cross.’, more colorfully celebrated in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, bringing the city to a standstill, with hundreds of orthodox priests and deacons donned in ceremonial regalia, joined by thousands of Ethiopian Orthodox Church faithful to usher in the festival.
Meskel festival, registered as world heritage by UNESCO, is also known as the ‘Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross’ in other Orthodox, Catholic or Protestant churches.
This tour combines half day Addis Ababa city tour with the Meskel celebration.
<p>The city tour to addis starts with a visit to the National Museum & the Ethnographic Museum at the Addis Ababa University. Visit the Holy Trinity Church. Then a drive to YekaTerara for Addis Ababa City view and short trekking (1/2 hour). Lunch break & coffee tasting at Tomocca.</p><p>In the afternoon, attend Mesekel Celebration at Meskel Square accompanied by thousands of faithful. Beer tasting at St. George Brewery. </p><p>In the evening, a farewell cultural night at the renowned cultural restaurant for authentic Ethiopian cultural food buffet along with live music and dances of the diverse nations and nationalities of Ethiopia. </p>
